After we all recovered from COVID, we took an easy hike to the southwest near one of the forest kindergartens. 
There wasn't all that much path to work with so we made our own. 
Laura found a tree stump that looked like a mushroom cave.
Our beloved cousin came to visit. 
Laura took her to the Black Forest.

I took the beloved cousin to see one of our go-to castle ruins. It was a nice day so people were rock-climbing up to it.
Oscar tolerates the kids' decorations. 
Laura had to make a prize for best chili in the organization and she painted it gold a few times but then Astrid came along and gave it a coat of yellow and it looked atrocious so she was happy when got a can of spraypaint to override the previous day's work. 
Mohringen bahnhof is a scene at night. 
I walked outside to get better reception to see my shopping list and the Germans took a bus and made it a free covid shot station. It says no appointment, first or second doses. 
There was a bit of a regional run on baking flour with Ukraine being one of the big wheat producers in the world. If the Germans can't bake they lose their minds.
This guy was doing his part and wearing pants that will keep women 6 feet away.
A German poem posted in ad space on the city rail system: 
Mother duck swims in the pond, duckling's knees give way, swims for about two hours already has blisters, already has wounds, moans: Oh, quack, oh, mother stop.

Press the hold button. I was just born, still have to drill a small hole. But the mother lets a fart. keep swimming life is short.

Huey hadn't been on the train for probably longer than he could remember so when I told him it's a really fast one he was nervous and wanted to hold my hand for when it went fast. 
We took the kids to a body exhibit where they dipped parts of human bodies (and a pig) in plastic and preserve them to show different things about how bodies work. Some of the kids got more out of it than others.

Laura was of course interested in the old building it was held in, which was a public pool long ago. 
The kids found these chairs entertaining. 
This is a series of cross-sections of a body that made me think of all of the many things that can go wrong. 
Probably a good thing to remember. 
Jeffrey got an A on his class presentation. 

After this, between March and April, we went to Scotland.
